Bridge Engineering

Areté Engineers, PLLC is a professional services firm located in Blowing Rock, NC and Morganton, NC.  We provide engineering services to state DOT’s, municipal agencies, residential and commercial clients.  We are currently seeking candidates for a full-time Bridge Engineering and Inspection position.

In the role of Bridge Engineer, we will count on you to diligently draw from your education and experience to:

• Design and Engineer various types of NCDOT and pedestrian bridges. 
• Perform NBIS bridge inspections and bridge ratings.
• Apply structural engineering using steel, concrete, FRP, and timber materials.
• Develop integrated designs and be creative while providing our clients the most cost-effective solutions.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. in Civil Engineering
• E.I.T. 
• A commitment to integrate as a team member into our company culture
• Related internship experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Open Bridge
• STAAD, RAM Concept, StruCalc, Solidworks and Microstation 
• Experience with NCDOT bridge design
• Experience with NBIS bridge inspection and rating

Structural Engineering

Areté Engineers, PLLC is a professional services firm located in Blowing Rock, NC and Morganton, NC.  We provide engineering services to state DOT’s, municipal agencies, residential and commercial clients.  We are currently seeking candidates for a full-time Structural Engineering position. This is an in-office position located in Blowing Rock, NC.

In the role of Structural Engineer, one should expect to fulfill the following duties and expectations.

• Provide engineered design on both residential and commercial construction.
• Develop drawings to be used as construction documents through hand-drawings and/or AutoCAD.
• Apply technical knowledge to design of common construction materials such as steel, concrete, masonry, wood, etc.
• Complete site visits for inspections, construction administration, or gathering measurements for plans.
• Develop assessment reports based on field assessments.
• P.E.’s are expected to manage projects and seal construction documents.

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. in Civil Engineering
• E.I.T. (FE Exam Passed)
• A commitment to integrate as a team member and communicate effectively.
• AutoCAD
• P.E. license or ability to obtain within 1-2 years.
• Experience with modeling software or ability to quickly learn how to use software programs such as RAM, STAAD, SAP or IES Visual Analysis.
• Experience in Commercial / Residential Structural Design or Construction

Internships

We are excited to offer 4 internships during the summer of 2026 working in all different areas of structural engineering with our team (Bridge Inspection, Archittectural Engineering, and Infrastructure Design).

Hydraulic Engineer

Areté Engineers, PLLC is a professional services firm located in Blowing Rock, NC. We deliver engineering services to state DOT’s, municipal agencies, commercial and residential clients. We are currently seeking a candidate for a full-time staff engineer, in the Hydraulic Engineer position to expand our service offering to our clients. The successful candidate would join a dynamic and growing firm, and work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.

Specifically, we are looking for a Civil Engineer with a focus on or desire to learn Hydrology and Hydraulic engineering.

• The development of Hydrology and Hydraulic FEMA studies.
• The development of FEMA CLOMR and LOMR submittals
• NCDOT BSR and CSR development

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)
• Ability to clearly convey information through verbal and written communications
• Effectively work independently and as part of a design team
• Applicant should have educational background pertinent to software such as GEOPAK, Open Roads and/or HEC RAS.
